Dr. Heschel is the author of over one hundred articles, and has written or edited several books, including Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity: Essays of Abraham Joshua Heschel; Betrayal: German Churches and the Holocaust (with Robert P. Ericksen). She is also the daughter of one of the most important leaders of the Jewish community in America in 20th century: Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, who was a scholar, a theologian, and active in the Civil Rights movement. In this talk Dr. Heschel will address issues raised by the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. These will include: exploring the work of her father and the Civil Rights Movement and whether it provides a framework for today’s situation; analogies between the US and Nazi Germany; the rise of anti-Semitism in the US and the alliance between right wing Zionists and the alt-Right movement; the response to Trump from Benjamin Netanyahu and the American Jewish community.
