Andreas Dresen · Germany · 2018 · 128 mins · Not Rated

Sponsored by the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies and the German Consulate General of Vancouver, Free Admission and introduction by Dr. Peter Golz.

Andreas Dresen’s Gundermann was nominated in ten categories at last year’s German Film Awards and won six of them.Gundermann shows the many sides of the captivating poet, rock star, and excavator operator Gerhard Gundermann. He was a victim of the Stasi, but he also worked for them as an informal member, code name “Grigori”. “He wants to be a good worker, a great husband, a caring father, an artist, a clown, a politician - he is everything at the same time. Gerhard GUNDERMANN is hero and anti-hero, a constant contradiction, a glittering figure typical of the former East-Germany - and again not. People like him are everywhere. And they offend everywhere.” Pandora Film Produktion. Cast Alexander Scheer, Bjarne M├Ądel, Peter Schneider
